Despite very heavy rain, those arriving at the atmospheric church of St Bartholomew the Great for the traditional Christmas Service of Nine Lessons and Carols proved to be in good spirits and very fine voice.
This year the Aldersgate Ward Club were joined by members of the Royal Society of St George - City of London Branch, together with the Masters, liverymen and guests of the Worshipful Companies of Hackney Carriage Drivers, Woolmen, Farmers, Fletchers and Tax Advisors.
The choir excelled in providing a glorious selection of seasonal music interspersed with congregational carols and lessons, read by the Masters of the various livery companies each resplendent in their robes and chains of office.
Following the service many repaired to Haberdashers Hall for drinks, followed by a delicious supper of appropriate Christmas Fayre, good wine, crackers and the obligatory donning of paper hats!
It was a very jolly occasion, clearly much enjoyed by all.
