Annual Civic Luncheon
On Tuesday 8 April 2025 we held our Annual Civic Luncheon in the historic Guildhall East Crypt. This is one of the flagship events of our calendar & we were very pleased to welcome Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney as our guest of honour. Alderman Hughes-Penney was representing the Lord Mayor & was wearing the new chain of office for The Lord Mayor’s representative which was presented by the previous Lord Mayor Alderman Michael Mainelli. Alderman Hughes-Penney will, subject to election, be the next Aldermanic Sheriff.
A total of 56 members & guests enjoyed a sparkling wine reception followed by a delicious three course meal including a Paddington Bear 65th Anniversary Marmalade Bread & Butter pudding
After lunch the Master gave a brief description of the activities of the club for the guests & also thanked the Hon Secretary & Hon Treasurer for organising the lunch & also the staff at the Guildhall & Chef & Butler for the facilities, food, & beverages.
This was followed by a very interesting speech by Alderman Hughes-Penney, after which the Master presented him with charitable donations to both the Lord Mayor’s Fund & the Sheriff & Recorders Fund on behalf of the Club. In return Alderman Hughes-Penney presented the Master with a copy of a beautiful mediaeval map of the City of London.
