Carols by Candlelight

3rd December 2015

In the early evening, thirty-six members and guests were welcomed to the Spaghetti House in Knightsbridge with a glass of Prosecco, before enjoying the delicious two-course seasonal Menu Natalizio. We then progressed round the corner to St Paul’s Church in Wilton Place, to celebrate ‘Carols by Candlelight’ in aid of the charity Prostate Cancer UK.

We were greeted at the church door with mulled wine and mince pies, before ascending to the private balcony reserved for us. There, by flickering candlelight, we were treated to an inspiring and amusing evening of Christmas music and readings. Two choirs, including the a capella boys of Tiffin School, took us through a mix of traditional and modern carols, some of which we joined in with lusty singing. The readers of familiar favourites and quirky new pieces, appropriate to the season, included chat-show host Sir Michael Parkinson, and the actors Zoë Wanamaker and Sam West.

The Master was delighted that the Club had supported Prostate Cancer UK, a charity close to his heart, at this delightful festive event, which for him always marks the start of the Christmas season.
