Visit to the College of Arms
6th and 10th February 2015
In February, members enjoyed a visit to the College of Arms, where we were hosted by Timothy Duke, Norroy and Ulster King of Arms (pictured right). With wit and wisdom, he introduced us to the origin of bearing Arms and explained the various heraldic devices.
The highlight was viewing some of the earliest Grants of Arms, still preserved in glorious coloured artwork and fine hand-written script in their bound velum albums, dating back as far as Tudor times.
After a convivial glass of wine at the College, most of us adjourned to a nearby restaurant to round off a fascinating and entertaining evening.
