Ironmongers' Hall

Aldersgate Ward Club

One of only two Livery Halls in the Ward of Aldersgate (the other being Plaisterers' Hall - Click Here for more information), the Ironmongers' Hall on Aldersgate Street is relatively modern. Although presented in Tudor style, the Hall was actually not built until 1925. It survived World War 2 and also the establishment of the Museum of London, which nearly involved its demolition.

 

The Ironmongers' Company is tenth in order of precedence and can trace its origins back well over 500 years. The Company occupied premises in Fenchurch Street from 1457 until the Hall was damaged beyond repair by a German bomb in 1917.
